Three Thieves Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This marvelous wine recently appeared at our local Costco wine shop, and at theThree Thieves Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 ridiculously inexpensive price they were charging, we just had to buy one and try it. Rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast and #5 on their Top 100 Best Buys of 2019 wine list, the comments from them are…”This exuberant wine is packed with expressive fruit aromas and irresistible flavors that range from cherry to black plum and blackberry. No noticeable oak gets in the way of the wine’s fruit flavors. Medium body, good balance and gentle tannins make it easy to sip.”

This is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards in Lodi and Monterey counties. Bone dry with crisp acidity and firm tannins, this wine is a delicious, fruit-forward Cabernet, loaded with ripe cassis, blackberry, liquorice and menthol with sun-dried black olives, dark chocolate and smoky, vanilla-scented oak. And did I mention the price. It is $16 in Ontario, $19 in BC, $16 at Willow Park in Calgary but here at our Costco…$12. And there is a case lot sale on while supply lasts. $12 off if you buy a case.

The selection at our Costco continues to impress me every time we drop by. Looking forward to finding the next bargain.

About FirstPressings

Jim Martin has been involved with the wine and spirits industry for more than four decades. Originally from Vancouver, he started with the provincial BCLDB and discovered a passion for wine in 1977 when he stumbled across a 1975 Bordeaux, which was a revelation to him. This led to delving further into wine appreciation through education, constant tasting and evaluation of the different regions of the world. In 2004, he left the BCLDB for the private sector becoming involved in the opening of Kelowna's first private specialty wine store, Waterfront Wines. He was instrumental in developing an email newsletter while at the LDB and expanding it at Waterfront Wines to include over 3000 people, who receive up-to-date wine news every week.
